Sweepstake Scam Alert
There is a mail fraud scam that illegally uses the Electric Insurance Company® logo and name to mislead consumers into believing they have won a bogus sweepstakes partially sponsored by Electric Insurance.
The letter directs recipients to call the sender in order to activate an enclosed check, which the sender may claim is to cover the insurance and/or administration fees. The check may be imprinted with the pirated Electric Insurance logo and company name.
Neither Electric Insurance nor the bank listed on the check is in any way connected to this scam and will not honor the false check.
Individuals who receive a fraudulent sweepstakes notification should contact their state's Attorney General (a contact list is available through The National Association of Attorneys General) or state Office of Consumer Protection, and visit the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Alert on Lottery Scams for more information.
